Hello from the basement studio! I’m coughing quietly down here on day 5 of Covid; our calculated risk of taking our vaccinated, consistently-masking family down to Texas to have a summer adventure and spend quality time with my side of the family came up snake eyes in the end. Sad trombone sound.
Because of Covid, an already decadent-for-my-work-schedule two weeks away from home turned into three weeks away + extra time at home without childcare. It is a challenge to be a) ambitiously trying to wrestle my career back into some kind of forward momentum, while b) trying to create magic for 3 little kids in the time of Covid, while c) my spouse has a corporate job that has minimal schedule flexibility. How does that song go in Beauty and the Beast again? “Tale as old as time, tune as old as song! He’s head of the org chart, hers is just some art, Patriarchy’s hold is long!”
Honestly though, I’m the one slowing myself down this week. My kids all tested negative in time for our nanny to return to work on Monday; I need to be working on my script, but instead I’m catching up on back-to-school logistics and working on diary comics. Here is the first third of my time away: vacation prep; 3 days & 2 nights in Michigan with my middle kid to celebrate a dear friend’s birthday + seeing beloved college friends who just moved from California to Michigan; and the 3 day drive from Chicago to Texas with my eldest. More to come, after I get more writing done!
What a cliffhanger!! 💘
The City Museum is so fun and frightening!
