I am proud and excited to share the pre-order link for Abortion Pill Zine, a Community Guide to Misoprostol and Mifepristone, which will be published by Silver Sprocket this September. APZ is an approachable, conversational resource that offers information about how the medications Misoprostol and Mifepristone work to manage abortions, including what to expect, precautions, access, and a ton of centralized resources for gathering up-to-date information about the legal safety of accessing these medications.
This book been in the works since June 24, 2022, when Dobbs overturned 50 years of precedent, overruling Roe vs Wade and setting off a cascade of state legislations reducing or eliminating pregnant people’s right to abortion and bodily autonomy in the US. We recognized that as abortion is criminalized, digital information (web searches, texts, etc) could be used as evidence against people seeking to educate themselves on their reproductive options. We created this zine as a physical resource that could theoretically be purchased with cash, borrowed from a library or community health center, or passed discretely between community members to share medically accurate, inclusive, and compassionate information about self managed abortions.
I am so grateful to my collaborators Izzy Rotman (the captain of the APZ ship) and Sage Coffey, to Ari and Avi and everyone at Silver Sprocket for publishing the zine, to the medical professionals and lawyers and reproductive justice experts of all stripes who proofread the many drafts of this book to ensure the accuracy and legality of the information we are sharing, and to the generations of abortion advocates, past, present and future, for continuing the fight for our right to abortion.
