If you are interested in getting a copy of Cuarenta, a new zine collecting the travel sketches and diary comics I drew last week when I was in Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada Spain, please sign up by March 31!
I drew 24 pages of comics in 9 days, sometimes while sitting and looking but not as much as I’d hoped: because of the drizzly weather and packed days of walking (I averaged 10 miles a day!), most pages were drawn at the end of the day in my hotel room. I got back to Chicago on Sunday night, scanned in the pages Monday morning and sent them to the printer, picked up the pages yesterday and spent the day folding and stapling 200 booklets, and today I delivered the books to Anna for shipping. This is by far the fastest turn-around between drawing the thing and delivering final product I’ve done since a book-a-week book arts class I took in grad school. When I’m otherwise spending my days wading through the many-years-long quagmire of a graphic novel, it’s fun and satisfying to remember that I can work quickly, too.
Here’s a little preview, covering my first full day wandering around Sevilla:
Hope y’all are well!
