Yesterday my husband Tom poked his head into my studio so we could coordinate some weekend scheduling logistics. With deep-knowing affection, he asked if I could give him a heads-up when I feel the overdue, massive social-overwhelm-burnout coming. It’s usually like clockwork: I am an introvert and need true quiet time to be at my best, but the past few weeks have been chockablock with people and activities, and the next month is even busier. It’s weird to us both that I’m doing great! Thriving, even! What the fuck! What a treat!
I hope you are able to find some joy on these warm days, despite all the darkness around us. Here’s wishing watermelon and tomatoes and sunshine for us all, and more than enough to share.
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” - Audre Lorde
If you can afford it, please don’t forget to set up a recurring donation to your local abortion fund; the needs have never been more urgent. I support the Chicago Abortion Fund and the Lilith Fund (supporting beloved Texas). Trans rights are also violently under attack; I support the Brave Space Alliance (a black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ center in Chicago) and the Transgender Law Center (the largest trans-led trans rights advocacy organization). There are so many organizations and so many brilliant people working hard to make the world more just, despite the white supremacist fascistic spiral our country is in. I don’t have any wisdom to share beyond an urgent reminder to use what privileges we have (money, time, safety, visibility, etc) to fight for the equality, dignity, safety, and full humanity of the most vulnerable among us.
