Happy first real day of summer! It’s as hot as hellfire & damnation, yesterday was the last day of school, and the Fisher-Price slide is going straight into the kiddie pool in the yard. This is my season: I love living in a part of the world where the seasons have big personalities and I have deep affection for each one, but as a Texan raised across the American South, I feel most at home when my eyes are squinting into the sun and my clothes are damp from sweat. Bury me in watermelon, burn my face, free my legs to the humid air, even the back of my knees wet with sticky salt. Can I get a sweat-ghost of my butt on every plastic chair? Amen amen amen!
Here are some diary comics covering the past few weeks. Highs and lows, baby! Life is full!
