CAKE 2023 & beyond!
This weekend is the triumphant return of CAKE, the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo! I’m not exhibiting this year—CAKE organizers wisely honored the tables they awarded for the cancelled 2020 show, and back in 2019 when applications were open I was deep in “oh shit how do you parent a toddler AND a baby” land and didn't even apply. It feels a little sad for my beloved hometown show to return after so many COVID cancellations and not be a part of it, but the silver lining is getting to walk around, blow my month’s discretionary spending budget on a million minicomics, and give hugs to so many friends I haven’t seen for 4 years. I’m going to be there walking around from show open on Sunday for as long as I can! Can’t wait!
In other news: I finished the short comic I’ve been spending my recent hours working on and submitted it for what I expect to be a prestigious rejection. You never know! I’ll share more once I find a home for it.
First day of summer break for my kids is next Thursday, so I expect to get back to doing quick diary comics between delayed house projects and summertime fun, like this big kid’s slip-n-slide summer bday party! I put this invitation together yesterday morning so my daughter can give them out to classmates next week. What’s the point of having a cartoonist parent if I can’t make things like this, you know?
More soon, beloveds. Have a great weekend!
